This is the fourth book in the Legends of the First Empire series. It takes place five years after the events of the third book, Age of War. Like the previous books, this instalment follows multiple character perspective. This series is set in the same world as his Riyria Revelations series but set thousands of years before the events of that series. To avoid spoilers I will not be going into detail about the plot.
I’ve really enjoyed the first three books in this series so I had high hopes for this book and I’m happy to say it didn’t disappoint. In this latest instalment, we get to explore more of this world and see how things have changed since the events of the third book. It was great to be back with these characters. Suri remains a favourite of mine but all of them are well written with distinct personalities and interesting back stories. The interactions between them all are so enjoyable to read and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for them in the next books.
Like the first three books, this one was quite a quick read for me, because I want to know what happens next. The plot is compelling throughout and I loved the direction the story is going. I would say that there isn’t a whole lot of action in this book and the pacing is a little slower than the third book, but the plot remains compelling throughout. The world building and character development will keep you engaged with the story when there is little action. I really enjoyed the plot of this instalment and I cannot wait to see what’s in store in the last two books.
Overall I thought this was a fantastic instalment in this series and I would highly recommend checking it out, if you haven’t started the series yet. The next book in the series, Age of Death, is scheduled for release sometime next year. Have you started this series? I’d love to know what you thought. I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.
I really need to catch up with this series. I loved the first book.
