It’s Tuesday and I thought I would participate in this weeks Top Ten Tuesday topic. TTT was created and run by the Broke and the Bookish – you can find out more and check out their blog here. As you can tell from the title today’s topic is books that you picked up on a whim, so books you maybe didn’t know anything or very little about going into it. I thought this is a really great topic and I want to try to pick up books on a whim a bit more – it’s always so nice when you stumble onto a great book or series without knowing much about it before hand. Let’s get started.
-
Red Rising by Pierce Brown – I had debated whether to pick this up for months without really knowing much about it and then one day I just took the plunge. I am very glad that I did as this is the first book in an amazing trilogy – the books just get better and better.
-
Promise Of Blood by Brian McClellan – I knew nothing about this, except the synopsis when I got this quite cheap on my kindle. I was travelling (with family) at the time and wanted some books to travel with. I enjoyed it so much that I now own the physical copies of the trilogy. I definitely recommend this if you are looking for a new flintlock fantasy.
-
The City by Stella Gemmell – Again I knew nothing about this except the synopsis and had read nothing by the author beforehand. Although the ending was a big ol’ question mark for me and although when I read it I thought it was a standalone it now has a sequel which I plan to check out.
-
The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon – I seem to remember that I had heard mixed things about this book but I picked it up anyway. I am so glad that I did. This series is so good and I am very much looking forward to the next book which comes out next year.
-
Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer – For this I wanted to try out more science fiction and the synopsis sounded really interesting. It ended up being a really unique and enjoyable book, and I will be continuing this trilogy – I just haven’t got around to it yet.
There you have it – five books I picked up on abit of a whim. I guess I’m kind of cheating because I am only going to give you guys five books, but I’m thinking that the number 10 is just a guideline. I am very glad that I did stumble upon these books and would definitely recommend them. Hope you are all having a lovely day.
See you next time.

I’ve been wanting to read Red Rising since it came out. I have it on my ipad but I always put it off. 😥

I definitely recommend it – the first book is the weakest but its still great! Books 2 is even better and book 3 blows them both out of the water!! So good!

I want to read it so bad right now but.. I have a few books up in my list that I have to read first. 😢 My TBR pile keeps growing bigger.

I know! I have so many books I want to read right now! And I have no self control so I end buying books even when I have a load already on my tbr 😄 I’m currently on a bit of a book buying ban 😊

The struggle! I’m also in a book buying ban (again). Good luck to the both of us. I have to stay away from possible temptations until I save up money. 😅

Red Rising was a good choice. I read it based off of a recommendation from a friend and it was fantastic! Great list!

Great list! I have Promise of Blood sitting on my TBR pile atm (picked it up after reading one of the short stories set in that world and greatly enjoying that piece), I hope to get around to it sometime this summer. Glad to hear you enjoyed it 😀
