The Flight of the Darkstar Dragon is a fantasy standalone that follows Min, a young woman in command of the skyship, the Melodious Narwhal. After finding themselves stranded in a new world and the core that powers the ship empty, Min and the crew must find a way to return home. The amazing cover art was done by Jenny Zemanek.

Set in the Darkstar Dimension, this standalone fantasy book contains a fantastically unique and vivid world. One of the main strengths of this book was the world building. Patrick has created a world unlike anything I’ve read before and I loved exploring it throughout the book. From the first few pages I was drawn into this world and I found it so easy to settle into the flow of the writing. I’m not going to say too much about it because I don’t want to spoil anything, but if you enjoy fantasy with great world building then I recommend checking this one out. The characters are all well written and I really enjoyed Min as a protagonist. Patrick does a great job at progressing her character throughout the story and I loved the character of Brightest. The story takes a pretty predictable path, but it’s still really enjoyable to read and I still found it to be a compelling read.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. This was my first book by this author, but it won’t be my last – I’m planning on checking out the Yarnsworld series, which starts with They Mostly Come Out At Night. If you’re looking for a new fantasy standalone to read, then I definitely recommend checking this one out. Have you guys read this book? I’d love to know what you thought. Let’s chat in the comments. I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.
