Hi guys, I hope you are all well and had a nice Christmas break. We are now into the new year and I think we are all hoping for a better one. To start this new year of blogging off, I’m going to be sharing my thoughts on season 2 of His Dark Materials. You guys probably know by now that the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman is one of my all time favourites and the second series of the BBC/HBO adaptation has recently finished. I shared my thoughts on the first series last year so I thought I’d share some thoughts on the latest episodes too. Obviously since I am talking about a second series, there will be spoilers ahead.
Series 2 resumes soon after the events of the first one. I really enjoyed the first series so I was very excited for this one and I’m happy to say that it didn’t disappoint. The fact that Will was introduced in series one meant that the second one could start immediately without having to introduce a new character – in the books Will doesn’t appear until the second book, The Subtle Knife. The characters from the books are so well casted in this adaptation, particularly Ruth Wilson as Mrs Coulter. There are some changes from the book in terms of who gets screen time – the Magisterium, the Witches and Mrs Coulter all have larger roles in this series than they do in the book. There is also a change in how a certain character dies towards the end of the second series. The main issue of the first series was solved in this one – daemons are present more and have more of a role alongside their human. Pan prefers the shape of a white ermine or red panda in this series and they are both adorable.
Basically, I thought this was a fantastic second series to this adaptation and I cannot wait for the third series to air. I’m excited to see how the third and final book is adapted. If you haven’t started watching this then I highly recommend you do – it’s so good. Have you guys been watching it? I’d love to know what you thought of it. Let’s chat in the comments. I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.

I’d love to watch it, but I went home to watch the first series because I don’t have a TV licence here! And obviously no home visits right now, so no series two for me just yet. 🙈

Ahh no that’s a shame. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it when you finally get to watch it. 🙂

Hello. I read that trilogy and absolutely loved it. I couldn’t put the books down, truly, I was so totally immersed in that world. I haven’t watched any screen adaptations in case it would spoil my memories of such happy reading days!
