Kings of the Wyld is the first book in the Band series by Canadian author Nicholas Eames. It is his debut book and follows a band of retired mercenaries, who come together again after an old member asks for help rescuing his daughter from a besieged city.
This is a fantastic fantasy debut with a great cast of characters and a compelling story. I found it so easy to settle into the flow of the writing and I was invested in the story from early on. I love the idea of a retired group of mercenaries and Eames does it so well in this book. All of the characters are wonderfully written – they are complex, with distinct voices and personalities. The story is so enjoyable to read. Eames does an amazing job at creating lighter moments and then quickly switching to tense moments. The atmosphere is done so well throughout. There are also some great fighting scenes throughout. The world building is intricately done without ever bogging the book down.
Overall this is a fantastic fantasy debut and I would definitely recommend checking it out, if you haven’t already. Have you guys read this one? I’d love to know what you thought. I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.
