Mid year freak out book tag

Hi guys. I hope you are all well. We’re halfway through the year which means its time for me to post the mid year freak out book tag. I’ve done this tag every year since I started blogging (I think). I haven’t done a lot of reading in the last six months (for me at least), but I’ve still managed to read 25 books. I’ve taken a few questions out of tag, for time saving purposes so I hope you guys don’t mind. I’m currently working though assignments and some personal stuff, but I still wanted to get this up for you guys. Anyway let’s get on with the tag.

What is the best book that you’ve read so far in 2020?

My top read is probably A Time Of Courage by John Gwynne, the third and final book in the Of Blood and Bone trilogy. Since I always struggle to pick just one though, other books I’ve loved include The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison, A Tale of Stars & Shadow by Lisa Cassidy and The Black God’s Drums by P. Djeli Clark.

What has been your favourite sequel of the first half of the year?

While I could obviously say A Time of Courage by John Gwynne, which is the third book in the trilogy, but since I’ve already mentioned it, I’m going to pick The Light Of All That Falls by James Islington. It is the third and final instalment in the Licanius trilogy and it was a fantastic concluding book.

Is there a new release that you haven’t read yet but you’re really excited for?

This one definitely goes to The Mirror & the Light by Hilary Mantel, the third and final book in the Cromwell trilogy. I can’t wait to see how Mantel wraps up this trilogy, although I need to be in the right mind frame to read it so I haven’t got around to it yet. I definitely want to get to it before the end of the year though.

What is your most anticipated release for the second half of the year?

For this, I’d probably go with The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart, which is set to be released in September. It sounds amazing and I was lucky enough to receive an early e-copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review – I can’t wait to read it. I’m also excited for The Memory of Babel by Christelle Dabos to be released (also in September).

What is your biggest disappointment so far?

I haven’t really been disappointed by any book, but one that I was hoping to enjoy but didn’t was Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust. It follows a girl who is poisonous to touch and is based around Persian mythology. Unfortunately I wasn’t a fan of the main character and once the love interest was introduced I started losing interest.

What is your biggest surprise so far?

This one goes to The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison. It had been on my TBR for a while and for some reason I thought that it wasn’t going to be for me, but I really enjoyed it. I originally read it as an ebook and loved it so much, I got a physical copy too.

Who is your favourite new to you, or debut, author?

My favourite new to me author is probably Lisa Cassidy. I started her A Tale of Stars & Shadow series this year and loved it. I can’t wait for the fourth book to be released, hopefully sometime this year or early next year.

What is the most beautiful book that you have bought?

Some of these I don’t have a physical copy yet but I will be adding them to my book collection.

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Hopefully I’ll get to these books, but we’ll see at the end of the year.
