Night of the Dragon is the third and final book in the Shadow of the Fox trilogy. As this is a concluding instalment, I won’t be going into any details about the plot to avoid spoilers. It is set to be released in the UK on 2nd April 2020.

After enjoying the first two books, I had high hopes for this book and I’m happy to report that it didn’t disappoint. This trilogy is set in the fictional Empire of Iwagato and is heavily influenced by Japanese mythology. Yōkai (supernatural beings in Japanese folklore) play a large part in this story and world, with one of the main characters being a kitsune, or fox spirit. I’m fascinated by Japanese culture and mythology so the world is one of my favourite things about this book, and the trilogy as a whole. 

The plot was generally compelling throughout, however it did seem to lose a little focus at times. This is probably the most action packed instalment of the trilogy – there are a lot of fights and obviously there is the final battle as well. The focus is more on the plot and action, over the characters in this book. I thought the romance elements was a little heavy handed at times, at least for me who isn’t a big fan of romance in books. The characters continue to be well written and the relationships were well developed too.

Overall I thought this was a great concluding instalment and I would definitely recommend checking out this trilogy.
