TTT: Animal Companions

TTT-Big2 (1)
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of book, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.This weeks it’s a freebie topic, which means we can post a list about anything we want. Since I love animal companions, I thought I would share some of my favourites in fantasy books.

  • Nighteyes / Realm of the Elderlings series / Robin Hobb / Wolf
  • Storm / Faithful and the Fallen series / John Gwynne / Wolven
  • The Disreputable Dog and Mogget / Old Kingdom trilogy / Garth Nix / Dog and Cat
  • Reichis / Spellslinger series / Sebastien de Castell / Squirrel cat
  • Wolf / Chronicles of Ancient Darkness / Michelle Paver / Wolf
  • Leelan / The Beast Player / Nahoko Uehashi / Royal Beast
  • Minna / Legend of the First Empire series / Michael J. Sullivan / Wolf
  • Horse / Green Rider / Kristen Britain / Horse

I am always interested in fantasy with animal companions and will definitely be more likely to pick up a book because of it. Who are your favourite animal companions? Have I missed any important ones? I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.

  1. Fun theme! I love animal companions, too. One of my favs is a Tibetan temple dog named Mouse who shows up in some of Jim Butcher’s later Dresden books. I also love Harry Potter’s owl.

  2. The first thing that came to mind for favorite animal companions was Dennis in ‘Hollow Kingdom,’ who was a dog animal companion to another animal- a crow. I also liked the weird animal-like pet creature from ‘The Assassination of Bragwain Spurge’ (whatever the hell it actually was) and paralyzed protagonist’s telepathic dog in ‘Westlake Soul.;
