Hi guys, I hope you are all well. Today I wanted to share the upcoming book adaptations that I am excited for. There are more but these are the ones that I’m the most excited for. I’ve got as much information for each as possible but there aren’t a lot of details for some. Anyway, in no particular order, let’s get started.
Optioned for TV:
His Dark Materials / Philip Pullman / BBC and HBO
This has already been commissioned for a second series before the first has even aired. The cast includes Dafne Keen as Lyra Belacqua, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby, James McAvoy as Lord Astriel and Ruth Wilson as Marisa Coulter. This is one of my favourite trilogies so I’m both excited and a little anxious about this adaptation. The cast looks great though. A teaser trailer has been released and it looks amazing.
Kingkiller Chronicles / Patrick Rothfuss / TV
Apparently, this series won’t be following Kvothe and will be set many years before the events of the Name of the Wind. Rothfuss will be an executive producer and Lin Manuel Miranda will serve as creative producer, as well as writing the music. So far there is no cast information or a release date. A film (or films) are also in development.
Witcher / Andrzej Sapkowski / Netflix
With Henry Cavill set to star as the titular character, Geralt of Riveria, this adaptation is set to run for eight episodes. The author, Sapkowski, is set to be a creative consultant. There is no current air date. I have to admit to be a bit sceptical about the casting of Geralt but I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.
Optioned for film:
Dune / Frank Herbert / Legendary Entertainment
There is no release date yet. It is set to be directed by Denis Villeneuve and a cast including Jason Momoa, Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferugson and Oscar Issacs.
Artemis / Andy Weir / 20th Century Fox
After the success of the adaptation of the Martian, also by Andy Weir, his second book is set to be made into a film. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are set to direct the film.
Children of Time / Adrian Tchaivosky / Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate Pictures
Optioned back in 2017, I couldn’t find any further information about this one. Hopefully it is still in the works.
The Grace of Kings / Ken Liu / DMG Entertainment
Optioned back in 2016, I couldn’t find any further information about this one. Again, hopefully it is still being developed.
That’s it for today. I’m sure I’ve missed some but these are the ones I’m aware of. Have I missed any? What adaptations are you excited for? I’d love to know what you are waiting for. I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.

I’m very curious about the His Dark Materials adaptation! I don’t have a TV licence though, so I’ll have to watch it when I’m home, haha.
The only other thing that comes to mind is the Amazon Lord of the Rings prequel(?), which I guess still counts as an adaptation?!

The teaser trailer looked really good, so I definitely think it will be well worth checking out. I don’t have an Amazon prime video but that sounds interesting too.

I wonder what they will do with the Name of the wind, if it is set before the actual story..?

Yeah I think it’s going to be more of a prequel but I don’t know for sure.

This is the second post I’ve seen today about Artemis – I think that’s a sign I should pick it up. And I didn’t know it was being adapted, all the more reason!

I’m really excited to see The Witcher turned into a series, but also skeptical about the casting of Geralt. Willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, though! We’ll see. I’m also really excited by the recent news that they’re turning The Night Circus into a movie. I’ve been asking for one for years!

Yeah hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to see it. I still really need to read The Night Circus 🙂
