Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. This weeks topic is favourite quotes. I love sharing my favourite quotes and I’ve already done 3 posts about some – you can them out here, here and here. For this post I’ve come up with 8 new quotes to share with you guys. Let’s get started.
-
“Every time you take one path, you must live with the memory of the other: of a life left unchosen. Decide as seems best, one course or the other; each way will have its bitter with its sweet.” The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden
-
“History is the long shadow cast by the past upon the future. Shadows, by nature, lack details.” The Wall of Storms by Ken Liu
-
“Water does not resist. Water flows. When you plunge your hand into it, all you feel is a caress. Water is not a solid wall, it will not stop you. But water always goes where it wants to go, and nothing in the end can stand against it. Water is patient. Dripping water wears away a stone. Remember that, my child. Remember you are half water. If you can’t go through an obstacle, go around it.” The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood
-
“Stand aside, and try not to catch fire if I shed sparks of genius.” The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch
-
“Learn everything. Fill your mind with knowledge—it’s the only kind of power no one can take away from you.” Pachinko by Min Jin Lee
-
“Sometimes when she told stories about the past her eyes would get teary from all the memories she had, but they weren’t tears. She wasn’t crying. They were just the memories, leaking out.” A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki
-
“Prejudices, it is well known, are most difficult to eradicate from the heart whose soil has never been loosened or fertilised by education: they grow there, firm as weeds among stones.” Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
-
“Remember, the past need not become our future as well.” Elantris by Brandon Sanderson
What are some of your favourite quotes? I think I need to start writing down some of my favourite quotes from the books I read as I’m reading them, instead of trying to remember them later on. I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.

Great list! I really love The Penelopiad and Pachinko quotes. My favorite quote is probably the “I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will…” passage from Jane Eyre.
