Favourite Fictional Places

Hi guys, how are you all today? I thought I would share some of my favourite fictional places. There are so many amazing worlds created in books and I’ve never made a post about them, so I thought it was about time. Some of these are probably going to be kind of obvious choices but I’ve got five to share with you today. I’m not going to go into too much detail about each, because to be honest I don’t have alot to say :). I don’t really have reasons behind any of these places being favourites – I just like them. Let’s get started.

 

Middle-Earth / Lord of the Rings trilogy etc. / J. R. R. Tolkien

My favourite place within Middle-Earth would probably be Rivendell. If such things were possible I would love to visit this Elvish city and other places, but maybe I can do the next best thing and go to New Zealand instead :). This world is just such an interesting one and so vast – who wouldn’t want to explore it? Obviously without the burden of the ring though :).

 

 

Hogwarts / Harry Potter series / J. K. Rowling

Now I’m going to say something that may shock some people as this fandom is pretty intense but I am not actually a huge fan of this series. I enjoyed it, but I had issues with it and I definitely don’t love it as much as everyone seems to. Having said that, Hogwarts at Christmas sounds amazing so I had to include it on this list.

 

Echoes of the Fallen series / Adrian Tchaikovsky

I’m not sure what this world is called, but it is a new favourite of mine.There are currently two books out in this fantasy series – I’m not sure how many books are planned though.  It’s definitely not the most stable environment but I love the idea of being able to ‘step’ into animal form and experiencing all the different cultures would be amazing. Can we also just appreciate the beauty of the cover :).

 

Ancelstierre and the Old Kingdom / The Old Kingdom trilogy / Garth Nix

If you’ve been following my blog for any length of time you will know about my love for this series :).This is the world of one of my all time favourite series so of course it had to be in this list. I love the two separate kingdoms and the difference between them. I just love everything about this world and all that is in it.

 

Alagaesia / the Inheritance cycle / Christopher Paolini

Again this world is from one of my all time favourite series. The different kingdoms and cultures in this book would be so interesting to visit. I also love this map – I think it’s a really good one. I like to think that after the end of this series it would be a stable place to visit :).

 

Obviously I realise that it is impossible to visit these places but it’s fun to dream right? 🙂 Anyway I am sure there are more I could talk about but these were the first ones that came to mind. I think world building is so important and I love to be immersed in a new world when I start a new book. What are some of your favourite fictional places?
