2 Mini series review

Hi guys, how are you all doing today? It’s Friday so that means it is time for another book review – this week I am sharing 2 mini series review. I figure this is a great way to quickly share some thoughts on series that I have completed. Or even my thoughts on a series I’ve started. So that is what I will be doing today :). To stop myself rambling on about things, I am just going to go straight into the reviews.

Leviathan trilogy / Scott Westerfeld / ★★★
This is a great steampunk trilogy with amazing illustrations. I think the illustrations really make this trilogy work as it helps get into the flow of the story and understand the world of this series. It is aimed at younger readers but I think it can be enjoyed by a variety of readers and ages. The characters are engaging and well written, the plot is entertaining and as I mentioned earlier the illustrations are wonderful. It did take me a little while to get into the books but I attribute that to Westerfeld being a new author for me and after a few chapters I was into the flow of the story. Overall this is a very entertaining trilogy, although as whole it is perhaps a bit long. I would recommend it if you enjoy the steampunk genre and/or middle grade (or young adult) books.

 Eon duology / Alison Goodman / ★★★.5
This duology is set in a colourful world inspired by Chinese (and Japanese?) culture and mythology. The characters are all wonderfully flawed, as well as being varied and well written. There are so many great characters in these two books. It is also quite a unique fantasy story, so if you are looking for new fantasy books then you should check these out. The pacing of the first book was a little off at times, but it is mostly well paced and the plot will keep you hooked throughout the two books. The author is great at creating atmosphere and I enjoyed the writing style. The love triangle is annoying but I think it is done quite well – I personally really dislike love triangles but that is just my personal taste. If you also love books with dragons then this duology is for you. Overall I very much enjoyed these books and would definitely recommend them.

Of course the two series I decided to review are both fantasy – cause what else do I read ? :). Anyway that is all my thoughts on two great series. I would recommend them both, although the duology is probably my favourite of the two. Have you read either of these series? What do you think of them? I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.
