Hi guys, I hope you are all well. It is Friday so it is time for a new review. I am going to be reviewing two series this week. Both of these series I have completed and therefore all the books are out for each series. Let me know if you have any review requests as I am happy to do that. So the two series are the Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix and the Age of Legends trilogy by Kelley Armstrong – both of them are fantasy series which I know is very surprising :). Anyway onto the reviews.
Keys to the Kingdom series / Garth Nix

This seven book series aimed at younger readers, but it can be enjoyed by a variety of ages. It follows 12 year old asthmatic Arthur Penhaligon as he stumbles upon a kind of alternate universe. He is chosen as Rightful Heir of the House, the center of the universe, and subsequently sets out on an adventure to defeat the Morrow Days, the criminal Trustees of the House – each named after a day of the week. This is such a fun, whimsical and entertaining series – at one point there is even a talking eyebrow. I love the depth of the series. The plot is fantastic – it is engaging throughout and it is so entertaining, as well as being really quite humorous. The wide range of characters are wonderful and I think their development through the six books is done very well. I love the completely unique world and to me it is quite an interesting one – one of my favourite fictional places. As a younger reader you can enjoy the adventure and characters of the story, but as an older reader I think you will pick up on details you may not have noticed at a younger age. I hope to reread this series this year.
Age of Legends trilogy / Kelley Armstrong

This is a trilogy that follows twin sisters Moira and Ashyn. They are the Keeper and the Seeker, who quiet the souls of the damned each year – as you do :). One of my favourite things about this trilogy is the relationship of the sisters. They are very different people and they may not always get along, but they are always there for each other. I absolutely love this strong relationship. Each of the sisters are interesting, as well as being well written. I loved the sarcasm of some of the characters, especially the sisters. There is a love triangle, which you know is not my thing, but I could generally see past it to focus on the plot and characters. I liked the love interests for each sister and I was happy with how the love triangle worked out. It was a little too romance focused for me, especially the last book, but again I could generally see past it. The plot is compelling and enjoyable throughout, however I was a little unsatisfied with the ending. Generally I was happy with how things were concluded, but there was just a few things that didn’t quite work for me. Overall this trilogy is a quick, easy and enjoyable read and I would definitely recommend it.
