Hi guys, today I have another tag for you. Sorry it’s another tag, but I was feeling a bit uninspired at the weekend when I was scheduling this post for Monday – I hope you all don’t mind. As you can tell from the title this is a tag based around the Assassin’s Creed video game series. To be honest I haven’t played a lot of the games. I have played Assassin Creed: Syndicate and I love it – I have also played a bit of Black Flag, but that is pretty much it. I want to play more though as I have loved what I have played so far. I saw this tag over on the Books Amino app (my username is Philippa, if you are interested) and was created by Shannon Turner. Onto the tag questions.
Assassin’s Creed: Best Series Starter
I think I would have to go with The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson, as it was such an amazing introduction to the Mistborn trilogy. I was immediately drawn into the story and the characters, and it made me want to continue on with the trilogy as soon as possible. It was just a wonderful introduction to this amazing world and cast of characters.
Brotherhood: Best friendship
The first that comes to mind is Locke Lamora and Jean from the Gentleman Bastard sequences by Scott Lynch. It’s pretty much a bromance, to be honest and I love it. Their friendship is one of my favourite things about this series. They may not always get along but they are always there for each other when needed and I think it is one of the best things about the series.
Templars: Favourite villains
I think I may have mentioned this in another tag, so apologies if I did, but I have to say the Chandrian from the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. I love the mystery behind these figures – we know so little about them and I think that adds a real sense of suspense. I am excited to see how it unfolds in the next book whenever it comes up.
Stealth: Favourite book/series with assassins
Obviously the first book that comes to mind is Assassin’s Apprentice (and the Farseer trilogy) by Robin Hobb. I mean it even has assassin in the title, so it was meant to be :). I will admit that I struggled abit with the first book but you cannot argue the fact that Hobb is a talented writer. I am so glad I continued on with the series – I love it and would highly recommend it. I am currently in the middle of the Tawny Man trilogy – I have read Fool’s Errand and I hope to read The Golden Fool this month.
Hidden Blade: A character that surprised you
I apologise in advance if I have given this answer already in a different tag. I have a feeling I have but it’s the first that comes to mind and that is Malta from the Liveship Trader’s trilogy by Robin Hobb. I initially really disliked her character, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised by her development.
Leap of faith: A book you are glad you took a chance on
Definitely To The Sky Kingdom by Tang Qi. I picked this up on a whim – it was on Netgalley and I figured since it was free I would give it a go. I am so glad that I did. I absolutely loved it. It is so unique and enjoyable. I highly recommend it – the cover is also stunning.
Death from above: A character’s death you didn’t see coming
In a bid to avoid spoilers, I am not going to name the character. The first one that comes to mind is a certain character in the Black Magician trilogy by Trudi Canavan, who dies in the third and final book. I did not see it coming and it completely destroyed me. Also Lupin and all of the other deaths in The Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling.
Black Flag: A book with pirates
To be completely honest, I haven’t read a lot of books with pirates in. Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch is the first book that comes to mind – sorry I am using the Gentleman Bastard sequences so much in this tag :). Oh I have also read Piratica and Piratica 2, both by Tanith Lee. I enjoyed them both, but I never read the third book in the series because my sister told me it wasn’t worth it. I then insisted she tell me what happened, and ever since I have ignored the third books existence.
Rogue: A character who is a bit of a lone wolf
Boo Radley from To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I don’t think he’s necessarily a lone wolf by choice, but you have to admit that he is a very isolated character.
Syndicate: A book set in Victorian London
I am coming to the realisation I haven’t read a lot of books set in Victorian London. The only one I can think of is Assassin’s Creed: Underworld by Oliver Bowden, which is the book related to the video game Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate. I absolutely love the game and I very much enjoyed the book as well.
Jacob Fyre: A character who started his own gang
I actually can’t think of any off the top of my head. The only answer that comes to mind would be Locke from The Gentleman Bastard Sequences by Scott Lynch.
Evie Fyre: Favourite badass female character
I love a badass female character – I think I am going to go with Yelena from the Study series by Maria V. Snyder. She is such an amazing character and she can definitely take care of herself. I am excited to see how the series end with the release of Dawn Study next year.
