6 Months of Blogging

Wow, it has now been 6 months since I my first post went up on my blog. I can’t believe I’ve made it this far – I’m pretty proud of myself, if I say so myself :). There have been a few time I thought I might stop this blog but I’ve stuck with it. On the 15th of February 2016 I put up my first blog post! So today I thought I’d share some thoughts on blogging and somethings I’d wish I’d known before starting blogging.

  • Blogging is time consuming. I feel like if you are outside the blogging community, you have a bit of an assumption that it’s not time consuming. It really is. Writing posts, writing reviews, coming up with new ideas, interacting with the bookish community etc – it takes quite a bit of time.
  • The lack of direction and self doubt can be crippling. As someone who is struggling with their mental health and self esteem, I really had to work to stop myself paying too much attention to the stats. There will be moments you doubt yourself and you worry at how to keep your blog entertaining. I often worry about how I am going to keep my content interesting and new, but I am trying to persevere and get through it. If you love it, then it is definitely worth it.
  • Write about what you love. If you enjoy/love what you are writing about, it will come across to your readers and so it will be nicer to read. It will also make it more enjoyable for you.
  •  I have meet some really wonderful people online through starting my book blog. It has been so nice to chat about books with people who have similar tastes to me.
  • People will unfollow you – it is not personal. I have found Twitter and Instagram to be quite changeable and I initially wondered if it was something I’d done. It just happens and it’s best to accept that going in.
  • Don’t expect to be perfect straight away. It will be a process of finding what works for you and you will continue to learn throughout the process. You will get into the flow of writing posts and taking photos. If you are unsure, ask for feedback.
  • Netgalley is a great way to get more books to review. I am sure you will all agree we are not made of money, so this resource of digital copies of books is great. Don’t just request anything though – request the books you really want to read.

Lastly I wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who has followed, commented, and visited my blog. I am so thankful. I have loved these past 6 months of blogging. There have been many moments of doubts and worries but I am so happy I continued on with this blog. So again thank you so much. As a thank you I have a very exciting giveaway coming soon so keep your eyes out for that tomorrow. As always feedback is very much appreciated. I hope you are all having a wonderful day and I will see you next time.

  1. Congrats!!

I agree on the time consuming front – a lot of those outside the blogging community probably don’t realise just how much time is spent on it. Quality content doesn’t come quickly, but when you love blogging so much, it is well worth it!

I look forward to future content you share 🙂
