Intimadating TBR Tag

This tag was created by Lindsey Rey over on her Youtube channel, however I think she has stopped with her channel. You can still find her on her social media I think. Now compared to some tbr piles I don’t think mine is too bad. It is currently between 40-50 which for me is quite high – I normally have it at around 30 books so I definitely want to get it down. For this tag, I am going to share some books I need to read but haven’t yet for whatever reasons. Here we go.

01. What book have you been unable to finish?
This is kind of cheating as I’ve given up on it and so is no longer on my tbr, but a book I was unable to finish is The Aeronaut’s Windlass by Jim Butcher. I was so disappointed that I didn’t finish this, because I love the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher and I was so excited to see that there was a new series coming out. I just could not get into this book – I wasn’t engaged with the plot or characters and I think I gave up after around 100 pages. I may give this another go, but at the moment it’s a DNF for me.

What book have you yet to read because…

02. …you just haven’t had the time?
I think I am going to go with Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey which is the first book in the Expanse series – I think it has around 9 books in the series so far. I have alot of books to read and I want to make sure to set aside time to start this new series – I just haven’t started it yet. I am hoping to get to it this month though.

03. …it’s a sequel?
Broken Kingdoms by N. K. Jemisin which is book 2 in the Inheritance trilogy – the first book is the Hundred Thousand Kingdoms. I enjoyed book 1 and have been meaning to continue the series, but I just haven’t got around to it yet.

04. …it’s brand new?
The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu. It is the first book in a fantasy series but I literally just got it and so I haven’t read it yet. Hopefully I will get to it soon.

05. …you read a book by the same author and didn’t enjoy it?
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I’m kind of cheating as I don’t actually own this book but I have been debating whether to pick this book up ever since it came out. I read the Grisha trilogy by the same author and although I enjoyed it for the most part I was disappointed with the final book. So I don’t know whether I will read this one.

06. …you’re just not in the mood for it?
Maybe A Constellation of Vital Phenomena by Anthony Marra. I just haven’t been in a big historical fiction mood recently but I really want to get to this one soon as it has been on my tbr for quite some time now. The plot also sounds really interesting so I am looking forward to picking this one up at some point.

07. …it’s humongous?
Without a doubt, The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. I am currently reading this but I have only made a small dent it in so far.

08. …because it was a cover buy that turned out to have poor reviews?
I don’t have an answer for this – none that I can think of anyway.

09. What is the most intimidating book in your TBR pile?
Any of the above answers, but also Little Dorrit by Charles Dickens. It is one of his larger books and I haven’t had the best of luck with him so far, so I’m both interested and a little worried about how I will find it. I definitely want to give it a go though.

Hopefully by the end of the year I will have read the majority of these books. At the moment I don’t have a very large tbr so I think it is achievable. Let me know in the comments what is your most intimidating book on your tbr pile. Hope you have a lovely day.

See you next time.

Pippa
